Lab 8 South Asia

South Asia’s Himalayas are the highest globally, soaring to over 8,800 meters (29,000 feet).  the impressive physical geographic features of South Asia result from tectonic activity. This massive tectonic collision resulted in perhaps the most well-known physical feature in South Asia: Mount Everest. Everest, located in the Himalayan Mountain range on the border of Nepal and China, is the highest mountain in the world. From October to April, winds typically come from the northeast in South Asia creating dry conditions. Beginning in April, however, winds shift to the southwest, picking up moisture over the Arabian Sea, India gets more than 80 percent of its yearly rainfall from the monsoon and the rains are essential for both subsistence and commercial agriculture. The British eventually agreed to withdraw from India but political and religious differences resulted in a partition of the former British territory in 1947

Not everyone in South Asia supported the partition plan. Gandhi, who had long called for religious unity in the region, was opposed to the concept. Today, Jammu and Kashmir still remains a contentious territory and there have been violent clashes in the past few decades over political control. Although Buddhism, like Hinduism, is a highly regional religion with many different forms of individual expression, Buddhists generally share a belief in the Four Noble Truths: 1) Suffering is universal and inevitable, 2) The immediate cause of suffering is desire and ignorance, 3) There is a way to dispel ignorance and relieve suffering, and 4) The eightfold path is the means to achieve liberation from suffering.

India’s male-skewed population pyramid is indicative of a larger issue of gender inequality in its society. Overall, South Asia’s growing population will have a significant impact on its geography. Much of the historic growth in this region was supported by the Green Revolution, which refers to changes in agricultural technology and productivity beginning in India in the 1960s. In 1961,

Lab 1/ Global Population Projections of the year 2050

Lab 1 global projection of the year 2050 from the year 2015

The some of the take away from chapter one the introduction to Geography was the history behind the word Geography its Greek origins geo meaning “the earth” and graphia meaning “to write,”. every place on earth has an exact location that can be measured with latitude and longitude. the main problem people still face with trying to see earth on a flat sheet all at once is distortion since the earth is spherical its impossible to get a perfect image of the earth but, the general map people use is he the Mercator projection which was actual made for navigation.

Lab 1's main focus the general topic was projected population growth and decline by the 2050 one of the main things you would notice is that east Europe seems to be declining rapidly and countries and regions in Sub-Sahara Africa seem to rapidly growing. the Top five largest countries by population also seem to shift slightly (expected ) by 2050 which could be India, China, Nigeria, United states, Indonesia

the best way to wrap this up Lab 1 and the introduction is we are trying to look at the whole world from a new perspective a geographers perspective to see the world as a whole single before zooming into regions specially the people and regions and why they are how they are from foods to clothes to population
